Cruising Oregon, California, Baja to Mazatlan, Mexico

"Voyage to Mexico"

Motorcycle Adventure Rider Leaving the Road this Season for Adventure on the High Seas

I had been hoping to complete my motorcycle sidecar circumnavigation of the Americas this year (it still could happen) but as yet I am without authorization from the U.S. Treasury Department who would allow me access to Cuba, so I have decided to take another route.

On or about August 15th 2008, with friends, I will begin filming ports, harbors and anchorages along the Pacific Ocean coast from Astoria, Oregon to Mazatlan, Mexico.  I hope to have a new adventure movie DVD and book about cruising to Mexico available to all of my friends/customers/supporters near the beginning of 2009.

For those interested in adventure travel by boat along this coastline you will get a view of how our progress was made including the proposed float plan and preparation.  If you've ever thought about traveling via sailboat, trawler or motor yacht, I have listed my route and other preparation below.  These also include items my friends will need for the portions of the trip they will be traveling.

My only previous voyage of any duration with this vessel was in 2005.  Along with my brothers and friends, we took our trawler Noyo Star across The Columbia River Bar up the Washington coast through the Straits of Juan de Fuca, visiting the San Juan Islands and to Juneau, Alaska via the Inland Passage up to the glaciers North of Juneau.  Our plan this year found us departing Astoria, Oregon  August 15, 2008.  Eventually arriving in Ensenada, Mexico we held up until October 27 and then continue to Mazatlan.  Though hurricane season wasn't officially until the end of November,  no hurricanes have been a factor for this route after October 26 during the last 10 years.

                      4 sets of underwear/socks

                      2-4 work/deck shirts

                      2 work/deck pants

                      2 walking shorts

                      1-2 Swim trunk/suit (s)

                      1-2 pair of sandals

2 pair of deck/work shoes in case one pair is wet.  Soft soles are best as they don’t scratch deck.

1 pair of shoes for flight home.

1 laundry bag for dirty clothes

I have cold weather jackets and waterproof jackets/pants though I only have one large pair of waterproof deck boots.             We should be able to get by unless you just want your own pair of deck boots.

                        Toiletries

                    1 Toothbrush/toothpaste

                    1 Shampoo & Conditioner

                    1 Bath towel

                    1 Beach towel

Medicines (pain relief, suntan lotion, etc. as you need)

Food/Drink Options:  (just let me know)

                   1.      Shop together and split the food bill (this may not necessarily include individual booze or specialty drinks ie…               bottled water).  I am planning on making ice tea and other flavored water drinks from the water on the boat until         reaching Mexican waters where new water taken       into the holding tanks is likely not to be suitable for              drinking.  In Mexican waters we will be purchasing large containers of bottled water.

                   2.      or…Buy food and drink separately.

We need to maintain enough food and drink that will last 4 days each time we shop.  This is not to include            depending upon catching fish for the main course.

                    Make your list: (Food/Drink)

                    Breakfast

                    Mid morning snacks

                    Lunch

                    Mid afternoon snacks

                    Dinner

                    Late evening snack

                        Fishing Equipment:

                        Fishing Licenses

Oregon:  Buy at a sporting good store in Oregon.  Plan for no more than 10 days of fishing in Oregon Waters.        Projected cost about $43.00 for non resident 7 day license.

California:  Purchase 10 day license upon arrival in Eureka, CA  Projected cost about $50.00 for non resident
